Surf trips
Mahalo Holiday House is a private house, not a surf school or surf camp. What it offers a surf trip is space, an outdoor shower, a rooftop for drying kit and a ten-minute walk to the water.
Wave height tells you part of the story; swell period, swell direction and wind decide whether a session is worth it. The live panel above pulls marine data for the waters off Las Palmas, including water temperature, plus a multi-day forecast so a group can plan the morning the night before.
The reef shelters much of Las Canteras, which keeps the central beach calm for swimming while the northern end takes the swell. Other spots around the island work on different wind and swell directions. For lessons, board rental and guiding, use one of the established local schools.
Guests fly in for surf trips from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Germany, France and the rest of Europe — Gran Canaria's airport connects to most of northern Europe year-round, and the house is a short transfer north to Las Palmas.
